Umicore N.V. is engaged in manufacturing and distributing automotive catalysts, precious metals chemistry, rechargeable battery materials, electro-optic materials, electroplating, cobalt & specialty materials, precious metals refining, precious metals management, and jewelry and industrial metals. It operates through three business segments, namely, catalysis, energy & surface technologies, and recycling. Under the catalysis business segment, the company offers catalysts for diesel engines along with gasoline, natural gas, and alternative fuels for mild and fully-hybrid vehicles. It offers automotive emission systems for light and heavy-duty vehicles.
Umicore N.V. operates in the global market through 48 production sites and 14 research and development centers. In 2018, it spent nearly USD 231.5 million on research and development activities, which was 11.87% more than the previous year.
