Diagnostic focuses on researching, developing, manufacturing, and marketing in vitro diagnostics products, such as analytical instruments, reagents and software, among others, for laboratories. Hospital offers technology and services for hospitals, clinics and specialized centers for the manufacture of medicines, as well as physiological saline solution, enteral nutritional fluids and medical devices for interventional therapy. Bio Supplies provides, mostly, biological products for non-therapeutic use. Others provides manufacturing services to third party companies. Grifols' plasma fractionation capacity is 3.6 million liters of plasma a year and is carried out in the company's two plants located in Parets del Valles (Barcelona) and Los Angeles.
Strategy
The company views acquisitions as a part of its growth strategy. Strategic acquisitions help strengthen its business operations and expand market presence. In September 2021, the company agreed to acquire 89.88% stake in Biotest, a biotechnology company for US$1.2billion; and during the same time, the company entered into an agreement to acquire Tiancheng (Germany) Pharmaceutical Holdings for US$1.3 billion. In March 2021, the company agreed to acquire 25 U.S based plasma donation centers from BPL Plasma Inc. Through this initiative, the company strengthened its operations and intends to accelerate the development of innovative treatment options as well as its business reach. During the same time, the company agreed to acquire remaining 56% stake in GigaGen for USD 80 million.
Strategic agreements provide various growth and expansion opportunities for the company. In March 2022, the company partnered with Feeding America to help "box out hunger" by collecting nonperishable food and raising money for local member food banks across the country. In February 2022, the company entered into a global collaboration and licensing agreement with Endpoint Health for exclusive rights to develop and commercialize Antithrombin III (AT-III) in sepsis. In July 2021, the company and ImmunoTek Bio Centers LLC entered into a collaboration agreement to open 21 plasma centers and further advances on its expansion plan; and the company was selected by Dozie and Dozie’s Pharma to establish an intravenous solutions production plant in Nigeria. In May 2021, the company entered a collaboration with Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona to open an AMBAR center in Barcelona, Spain. In April 2021, the company entered into an agreement with the government of Andorra to establish a global R&D hub in Andorra.
