Xylem operates in North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. The company operates through three business segments: Water Infrastructure, Applied Water and Measurement, and Control Solutions. Water Infrastructure segment serves the water infrastructure sector with pump systems that transport water from lakes, rivers, aquifers and seas; with ozone systems, filtration and ultraviolet that provide treatment, making the water fit to use; and pumping solutions that move the wastewater to treatment facilities where the company's mixers, biological treatment, monitoring and control systems provide the primary functions in the treatment process. It offers Water and wastewater pumps, filtration, disinfection and biological treatment equipment, Mobile dewatering equipment. It markets these products under Flygt, Godwin, Leopold, Sanitaire and Wedeco brand names.

Strategy

Xylem expanded its pump portfolio to include the e-MP multistage ring section pumps, e-XC single-stage double suction centrifugal pumps, and larger vertical turbine pumps. From intake to discharge, Xylem’s products provide a wide range of industrial applications with increased production and profitability. Xylem’s R&D activities include designing and developing new products and applications, and improving existing products to increase customer value. The company invests substantial resources into R&D and expects continue to develop and invest in its R&D capabilities to develop high-quality, innovative and reliable products and applications, which will further strengthen its position in the markets. The company operates its R&D and product development capabilities across the world. It conducts R&D activities at its technology centres in conjunction with some of our major manufacturing facilities to ensure an efficient and robust development process. Xylem has various technical centres and local development teams worldwide, where it works to meet global needs and accelerate customization of products and solutions. In FY2020, the company spent US$187 million on R&D, which accounted for 3.8% of the company’s revenue. Such strong focus on R&D enables the company to develop new products and solutions and provides competitive edge over its peers.

Xylem has a diverse customer base operating across a broad range of industries with no single client accounting for more than 10% of consolidated revenue. The company provides a wide range of advanced wastewater and water solutions to a number of industries and applications such as, commercial pools and water parks, residential, environmental monitoring and analysis, food and beverage, energy and power, commercial buildings, general industry, life sciences, commercial shipping and ship building, construction, pharma and bioprocess, municipal water and wastewater, and mining and quarrying / aggregates. Its water infrastructure segment serves two primary end markets such as, water utility and industrial. In the applied water segment, the company serves various end markets including, residential, industrial and commercial. Its residential consumers are the end users in the residential market and the end users in the commercial market include owners and managers of properties such as apartment buildings, restaurants, schools, retail stores, hotels, institutional buildings and hospitals. The industrial market includes exploration and production firms, OEMs, developers and managers of industrial facilities, such as electrical power generators, chemical manufacturers, beverage dispensing and food processing firms, machine shops, car washes and clothing manufacturer. Hence, the diversified customer base helps the company to mitigate risks arising out of downturn in the activities of individual customers or in a particular industry. It also enables the company to generate stable and balanced revenue.

Partnership & Collaboration• In March 2014, The National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC) signed an agreement for three-year channel partnership with Sensus.
