Wärtsilä is a global leader in smart technologies and complete lifecycle solutions that caters to the requirements of marine and energy industries. It operates through three segments, namely, marine solutions, energy solutions, and services. The company provides diesel gensets under the marine business segment. This segment is engaged in developing products such as ship machinery, propulsion, & maneuvering solutions including engines and generating sets, reduction gears, propulsion equipment, control systems, and sealing solutions for all types of vessels, traditional merchant vessels, gas carriers, cruise & ferry, navy, and special vessels. Moreover, the company has three key customer segments including utilities, independent power producers (IPPs), and industrial customers.
Wärtsilä has operations in more than 200 locations across worldwide including the countries of the US, the UK, Canada, Brazil, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Spain, India, China, Japan, and Australia. It has a significant presence in the marine industry in the UK, Russia, China, and a few East Asian countries. Some of its subsidiaries are Wärtsilä Danmark A/S, Wärtsilä Finland Oy, Wärtsilä UK Ltd, Wärtsilä Italia S.p.A, Wärtsilä North America, Inc., Wärtsilä India Ltd, Wärtsilä Propulsion (Wuxi) Co. Ltd., and Wärtsilä LLC. It primarily competes with companies such as MAN Energy Solutions, Caterpillar Inc, and HHI Engine & Machinery Division.
