Saipem Overview
Saipem specializes in the development of engineering and drilling activities for the energy and infrastructure industry, globally. The company operates through five reporting business segments, namely, offshore engineering & construction, onshore engineering & construction, floaters, offshore drilling, and onshore drilling. In the offshore engineering & construction, it primarily offers conventional installation vessel, barge, lifting cranes, and pipeline systems through the manufacturing facilities from Indonesia, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, and Angola. It offers flexible offshore pipelines with over 3,000 meters depth with subsea structure installing capacity of nearly 14,000 tonnes.
The company has a wide presence in more than 70 countries across the world. It spent almost USD 39 million in 2018for research and development activities. It has laid nearly 30,000 kilometres of subsea pipelines as of 2018, around the world.
Strategy
Saipem focuses on expansion through investments in maintenance and upgrade of assets across the offshore engineering & construction business segment. Furthermore, it strategizes to expand through partnerships with local companies to strengthen the supply of raw materials and acquisition of players. It plans to increase its investments in offshore pipelines to meet the demand for technologically advanced and highly versatile fleet of pipeline laying ships . Also, it aims to increase the capabilities for the manufacturing of pipelines and upgrade the operating capacity, while enhancing the safety standards.
