PetroSA Overview
The petroleum, oil and gas corporation of South Africa (Pty) Limited (PetroSA) is a national oil company that is engaged in exploring and producing oil and gas products. It was formed upon the merger of mossgas (Pty) limited, Soekor (Pty) Limited, and parts of the strategic fuel fund association. The company has the largest gas-to-liquid (GTL) refineries in Mossel Bay, South Africa. It is engaged in the exploration and production of oil and natural gas resources, regionally and internationally. The company offers natural gas, crude oil, petrochemicals, and other oil products and serves customers throughout South Africa. PetroSA Ghana Limited is a major subsidiary of the company. Royal Dutch Shell plc. and Chevron Corporation are key competitors of the company.
Strategy
PetroSA is a going concern with adequate financial resources to continue operations into the future. Its GTL refinery produces ultra-clean, low-sulphur, low-aromatic synthetic fuels, and high-value products converted from natural methane-rich gas and condensate, using a unique GTL Fischer Tropsch technology. Moreover, the company also decided to reduce the operating mode of its GTL Refinery to sub-optimal levels in response to meet the challenge of depleting gas reserves.
