NextEra Energy Inc Overview
NextEra Energy Inc is engaged in the business of offering equipment and solutions for power & energy and renewable energy sector. NEE operates through two subsidiaries, namely, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) and NextEra Energy Resources, LLC (NEER). FPL offers electrical utility services in the US, and NEER is among one of the largest operators of wind and energy projects. NEER operates and maintains long term renewable energy assets spread across Canada, Spain, and the US. As of December 2017, NEER had a net generating capacity of 19,060 MW, which is distributed among the three countries where the US accounts for about 80% of the company’s power generating capacity. NEER produces about 94% of its total electricity from renewable energy sources, including wind and solar energy.
The company has wind facilities in 21 US states and 4 provinces in Canada, generating about 14,255 MW of electricity as of December 2017. Additionally, the company generated about 355 MW of new wind energy capacity in 2017 and about 1,500 MW of wind repower generating capacity. The company has a net generation capacity of 2,024 MW through solar facilities spread across 16 US states, Canada, and Spain.
Strategy
As part of its key strategy, the company (NEE) offers substantial financial provisions to farm land owners. This factor will be beneficial for families for generations, as the windfarms will be stationed at the same location for a very long period of time and the rental payments from the utility company will become an additional income for the family. NEE focuses on obtaining assets that are operated for longer time period, thus maintaining constant cash flow.
