It operates through three business segments, namely, HVAC, consumer appliances, and robotics and automatic systems. The consumer appliances business segment offers kitchen appliances, laundry appliances, refrigerators, and various small home appliances. The HVAC business segments offers residential air-conditioning, heating & ventilation commercial water purifier, and air-conditioning products. It markets its products under its Midea, Little Swan, MDV, Hualing, Welling, and GMCC brands.
The company has established a global network of more than 200 subsidiaries, over 60 overseas branches, and 12 strategic business units, employing about 130,000 employees in total, as of 2017.
Strategy
Midea Group focuses on ‘Smart Home + Smart Manufacturing’ as a growth strategy. It actively seeks opportunities by continuously investing in research and development to upgrade its artificial intelligence (AI), chip, sensor, big data, cloud computing, and other technologies. This will help the company maintain its leading position in the water purification industry. Additionally, it is also focusing on expansion as a strategy to maintain its brand and expand its presence in new countries through strategic alliances and joint ventures. For instance, in March 2016, Midea Group partnered with Toshiba Corporation to enhance its home appliances business and gain a competitive edge in Japan, countries in Southeast Asia, and the global market.
