Company Working: German specialty chemicals firm Evonik Industries AG is headquartered in Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia. It is one of the biggest specialty chemicals firms in the world and the second-largest chemicals company in Germany. It was established on September 12, 2007, as a result of the restructuring of the mining and technology group RAG, and is mostly owned by the RAG Foundation. RAG's commercial divisions for chemicals, energy, and real estate were merged into Evonik Industries, but mining operations were left in RAG's hands. Since that time, the businesses related to energy and real estate have been sold off, with the former having no shares left and the latter having a minority portion. 80 percent of its revenue is generated by its specialty chemicals division.
