Enel Spa Overview
Enel Spa is a multinational company, primarily focused on energy production and its management. The company operates through five business divisions, namely, infrastructure and networks, thermal generation, trading and upstream, renewable energy, and Enel X. Enel’s subsidiary, Enel Green Power Spa manages the renewable energy business. Enel Green Power has more than 1,200 operative plants spread across the globe and a production capacity of more than 42 GW. The company generates the highest revenue from hydro sector with an installed capacity of about 28 GW. The company offers solutions for all the stages along the value chain of the renewable energy production process, such as project development, commercial structuring, project financing, engineering & construction, operation & maintenance, and energy management.
The company has operations in over 30 countries, 11 countries including Australia, Egypt, Germany, Kenya, Russia, Singapore, and Turkey, have operating plants under construction. Enel Green Power division employs about 7,500 individuals globally.
Strategy
Enel has developed a strategic plan for the time period between 2019 and 2021, which is primarily focused on decarbonization. The renewable energy sector is expected to generate a revenue of about USD 1.09 billion for Enel by 2021 and hence the company is focused on increasing its renewable energy market share. For instance, 48% of the energy produced in 2018 was carbon emission free, and the company plans to increase this generation to 62% by 2021.
Enel has also planned to invest about USD 30.18 billion as a part of its capital expenditure till 2021 to induce industrial growth and gradually increase its market share. The company as its key growth strategy is expanding globally through collaborations, which will enhance the market share for the company. For instance, in 2017 Enel completed the acquisition of EnerNOC, which offers smart energy management systems.
